Dynamic Duo
July 26, 2024

In early 2022 our hospital had the good fortune to bring in Dr. Marlena Piehler as a much needed relief veterinarian. And lucky for us, she brought along her certified therapy dog, Tina, on her work days. By August of 2022, Dr. Piehler came on board full time which meant Tina would be coming to work with her each day to provide some support and snuggles for the staff!

But that's not all this team does! Several Tuesdays each month they volunteer at the Sussex County Library in Frankford, where Tina is the official " library dog". Her job there is to provide support and her undivided attention to youngsters as they learn to improve their reading skills. The kids have a designated area to sit and take turns reading aloud, while Tina sprawls in the huddle, allowing pets and hugs from them. Since she's had special training, she can be trusted to be fairly bomb proof around little fingers and the kids seem to feel much more comfortable perfecting their reading technique around a softeyed spirit who never judges them.

So, if you happen to visit Sussex County Library on a Tuesday, don't be surprised if you see our own Dynamic Duo demonstrating their super powers - helping little ones learn to love the library!
